     The African Union (AU) was formed in 1999, through the Sirte Declaration that calls to accelerate the process of integration in the continent and enable it to become a powerful player in the global economy while addressing multifaceted social, economic and political problems. In the Union, heads of state represents countries.
      As a continental organization, the AU provides an effective forum that enables all Member States to adopt coordinated positions on matters of common concern to the continent and defend the interests of Africa effectively. Its main objectives are to rid the continent of the vestiges of colonization and apartheid; to promote unity and solidarity among African States; to coordinate and intensify cooperation for development; to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Member States and to promote international cooperation within the framework of the United Nations.
