UN-Water is the United Nations coordination mechanism for freshwater and sanitation related matters. It was was formalized in 2003 as a platform that addresses the crosscutting nature of water and maximize system-wide coordinated action and coherence. The agency serves member states in their efforts towards achieving development goals related to freshwater and sanitation.
UN-Water also coordinates the UN awareness campaigns on freshwater and sanitation. These campaigns include World Water day, International decade for action, Water for Life, Sanitation for all and World Toilet day.
